Rare Condition Kitten Finds Grandpa Cat to Lean on After Bringing Back from the Sidelines

A kitten with a rare disease found a wonderful family and a grandpa cat to help it thrive.

A tiny kitten was rescued from the streets by volunteers for the Alley Cat Project and brought to Seattle to save a better life. The kitten was an estimated six weeks old, but only half that tall for its age.

He was underdeveloped, with folded ears, flexible wrists, and short and strong legs. The kitten had a number of health problems and needed special care. Despite all the odds against him, he was resilient and determined to live.

Gabi Campoy, a veterinarian and Seattle Area Feline Rescue volunteer, didn’t hesitate to take him in.

“I get a lot of challenging carers, especially kittens, as a volunteer vet, but for him it was love at first sight,” Gabi told Love Meow.

The kitten, named Teapot, has been treated to treat pneumonia, stomach problems, and other illnesses. After several days of oxygen therapy, the kitten began to breathe easier, eat much better, and even tried to play.

While he was gaining weight, he was busy improving his jumping skills with his newfound strength. Although he was barely a pound, he was a fierce warrior to be reckoned with.

When he was feeling better and ready to meet other feline friends, Scarecrow, the 18 year old house cat (who is also a rescue), took the little one under his wing and began to look after him like his own.

The teapot snuggled against his fluffy coat and melted in his arms. “We call Scarecrow the ‘Grandpa’. He welcomed the kitten in a very sweet and caring way, and cared for it gently.”

After getting the kitten’s laboratory results, they were able to diagnose her with congenital hypothyroidism, which is a rare condition in cats.

The teapot was given appropriate medication to treat his symptoms. Meanwhile, the grandpa cat showered him with undivided attention and unconditional love.

The kitten was thrilled to have another cat who taught him the trails and showed him the ropes.

He got stronger and more coordinated day by day, learning to climb ramps and make real jumps.

The kitten had Grandpa Scarecrow wrapped around its tiny paws. Gabi knew it would be a lifelong commitment to maintaining his quality of life and officially accepted Teapot after six weeks of care.

“I want to give him the best opportunity to thrive as a healthy and happy kitten,” shared Gabi Love Meow.

“Over time, grandpa and teapot became cuddly friends, and now they love to play and hang out together. Playing daytime or cuddling on the electric blanket are their favorites.”

The little wonder cat won’t let anything stop you. He wants to be on the go all the time and be the real adventurer he is.

Grandpa Scarecrow is always around, watching over him and making sure he doesn’t get in trouble and always stays clean and well-groomed.

With the tender, loving care of his family, Teapot has made great strides in his mobility and has turned into a love bug.

“Teekanne is a very sweet and cuddly boy. Without a strong will to live he would not have made it through pneumonia, constipation, hypothyroidism, etc.”

The teapot hit the two-pound mark by about four months. He’s still small, but his personality is larger than life.

The kitten will need special care for the rest of its life. His family is fully equipped and ready to provide anything he needs to thrive.

The palm-sized kitten came to his foster home and eventually made it forever. Since then, he has brought so much joy to the family and has surprised people again and again with what he is capable of.
