The latest documentary from the talented crew of Day’s Edge Productions, a company that specializes in films about science, nature, conservation and adventure, focuses on the latest bird research.

The 15-minute film with the title “Feathers in Flight” highlights the work of the Bird Genoscape Project, which tries to map the population-specific seasonal migration routes of birds by harnessing the power of genomics.

The filmmakers interview Mary Whitfield and other researchers investigating the endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher. By extracting DNA from individual feathers, they can map the bird’s wintering areas to improve its long-term survival.

“Feathers in Flight” premiered on National Geographic’s YouTube page today. You can see it here.
