Name and age of the dog: Ulu, 16 years
Surname: Ulu means breadfruit. Sweet name, sweet fruit, sweet girl.
Adoption history: Ulu, a pit bull mix, came to us on a freeway in Maui – she was an out of control bitch with a rope around her neck, a rope that she bit through to break free. She was skeletal, hungry, and terrified of everything around her.
Ulu’s life changed when she cautiously sneaked into my truck and became a house mouse for the next 15 years. She has loved all of my many other dogs and cats, lovingly honored those who are older and wiser, and mothering those who are young and in need.

Ulu likes to go with me, anywhere, anytime. Just run wild in meadows, forests or on the beach. Lately, despite being slowed down by arthritis, she’s still trying to get a few daily zoomies.
Ulu’s natural disposition is adorable sweet. She longs for love and teaches me to give as generously as she does. Now, at the age of 16, limited by arthritis and dementia, her innate sweet nature is maintained while she sleeps and dreams about her next chapter.
